This project created a new bike locker and shower room in an existing office building in the Central Business District in Washington DC. The building already had an exceptional transportation score, but the owner wanted to further encourage non-carbon emitting commutes by providing a locked storage area and the ability for commuters to be ready for their work day.

The space where we were accommodating the shower room was a former restroom with a few odd nooks and columns. Due to the ADA requirements for restrooms and shower rooms, we had to go through quite a few iterations to meet all clearance requirements and accommodate some plumbing runs that were interfering with a very low ceiling in the drive aisle of the parking garage below.

We were unaware of the issue with the drive aisle height below the space. We needed to create floor plan options keeping as many of the existing plumbing drops as possible. Ultimately, this resulted in a cost savings to the project and reduced impact on the infrastructure of the building.
